Department of English – 17th Century English Literature (Associate / Full Professor)

The Department of English at the University of Toronto, St George campus, invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in the field of 17th Century Literature and Culture; a strong interest in Milton would be an advantage. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor and will begin on July 1, 2019.

Applicants must have a PhD in English or appropriate field and an established international reputation based on a record of scholarly excellence appropriate to their career stage. The successful candidate must display evidence of excellence in both research and teaching. Evidence of excellence in teaching should be demonstrated by a statement of teaching experience and range, excellent teaching evaluations, and strong endorsements from referees. Evidence of excellence in research should be demonstrated by a record of sustained contributions and publications in leading presses and in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, and strong endorsements by referees themselves of high international standing. An appropriately qualified individual may also be nominated for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. Tier 1 Chairs are for outstanding established scholars.
