Introduction

Before applying for federal or provincial funding, researchers should consider a few simple questions to determine if their research may be subject to federal or provincial research security policies.

Please use this self-assessment tool as a starting place to determine whether and which of these policies may apply to your application.

The tool is intended as a guide. Researchers are responsible for determining if the Government of Canada's research security policies apply to a grant funding opportunity by consulting the individual competition information on the applicable Tri-Agency or CFI website(s).

Researchers are also responsible for determining if Ontario’s Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES) research security policies apply to a provincial funding opportunity by consulting the individual competition on the MCURES website.

The University of Toronto's (U of T’s) Research Security Team (RST) is available to provide support and resources related to these requirements, as well as to guide you in implementing best practices to safeguard your research. Contact us anytime with your questions or consult our website for more information.

The use of this self-assessment is anonymous and no personally identifiable information is captured during its use.
