To ensure compliance and minimize delays, it is important to be aware of the various research security requirements of research funding organizations. Some federal Canadian agencies and departments have established their own research security processes that are independent of the National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships (NSGRP) and Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliation of Concern (STRAC) Policy. Departments identified as having research security policies include the following.
- National Research Council (NRC)
- Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) (no public information currently available)
There are several Canadian research and funding organizations that have implemented independent research security measures and requirements. Some organizations that receive federal funding via the government’s Strategic Science Fund have implemented individual research security processes and requirements. These include the following.
- CIFAR – Research Security
- Genome Canada – Research Security Plan
- Mitacs – Research Security
- Stem Cell Network - Guidance on Research Security for SCN Funding Applications
Some organizations that do not receive government funding have also implemented research security measures into their funding and research practices. Researchers that are applying for grants administered by any funding organization should consult the organization directly for more information on application requirements.
Please contact the Research Security Team at researchsecurity@utoronto.ca if you require assistance navigating a funder’s research security process.
