Requirements for Research & Teaching Involving Humans or Animals

What do I need before I can begin?

For research or teaching projects involving human participants or animals, you must have the following.

  • A finalized project plan that has undergone a peer review (scientific merit/pedagogical merit)
  • Review and approval by University of Toronto Research Ethics Board (human participants) or Local Animal Care Committee (animal)

Overview

Any research or teaching involving human participants or animals, whether done on University of Toronto (U of T) premises or not, requires prior review and approval by a Research Ethics Board or Animal Care Committee.
