Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering - Special Call

The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (FASE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for nomination to a Canada Research Chair, Tier 1. Applicants must be full-time tenured Full or Associate Professors who hold  a budgetary appointment in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. The Faculty expects to select up to two (2) Canada Research Chair, NSERC Tier 1, nominees in this round.

In order to address the under-representation of women, Indigenous peoples, or persons with disabilities both among current Chairholders in the Faculty and in the CRC Program as a whole (as identified by the Tri-Agency Institution Programs Secretariat (TIPS)), this special call is open only to individuals who self-identify as women, Indigenous peoples, or persons with disabilities1. This initiative follows the provisions for special programs as described by the Ontario Human Rights CommissionThe identification of outstanding candidates from these designated groups supports the University’s and Faculty’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion  and their public mission for the pursuit of excellence and equity, as well as to the institutional capacity to fulfill the objectives of the Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan. 

Tier 1 Chairs are for outstanding established scholars. To meet the criteria of the program, nominees must be outstanding and innovative world-class researchers whose accomplishments have made a major impact in their fields; be recognized internationally as leaders in their fields; have superior records of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (taking into account different practices in the relevant field or discipline) and, as Chairholders, be expected to attract, develop and retain excellent trainees, students and future researchers; and be proposing an original, innovative research program of the highest quality.  The nominee’s research area must align with the subject matter eligibility of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). 

Applications should include 1) a letter of interest describing your qualifications and research plans for the position (please limit the LOI to 3 pages);  and 2) a curriculum vitae (using the template provided).
