Ontario Institute for Studies in Education - Targeted Call

February 12, 2024

The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) invites applications for nomination to a Canada Research Chair, Tier 2, in any area related to OISE’s purpose and breadth of scholarship. Tier 2 Chairs are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.

OISE expects to select up to one (1) Canada Research Chair, SSHRC Tier 2, nominee for a fall 2024 nomination. Applicants must be full-time tenure-stream Assistant or Associate Professors at OISE.  The nominee’s research area must align with the subject matter eligibility of Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

To address the underrepresentation of groups who experience systemic barriers in the CRC Program (as identified by the Tri-Agency Institutional Programs Secretariat), this special call is limited to OISE faculty members who are members of at least one of these two designated groups: members of visible minorities and Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Inuk, and Métis), as defined by the Employment Equity Act. This initiative follows the provisions for special programs as described by the Ontario Human Rights CommissionThe identification of outstanding candidates from these designated groups supports the University’s institutional capacity to fulfill the objectives of the University’s Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.

Tier 2 Chairs are for emerging scholars, and the successful nominee should be within ten years of receiving their highest degree at the time of nomination (October 2024). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. Eligible career break(s), credited at twice the amount of time taken and subtracted from the time since the applicant’s highest degree, must equal 10 years or less, see Tier 2 justification process for further information.

Selection criteria: Tier 2 Chairs are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. Nominees must:
